Four Essential Metrics To Track To Measure Your Pinterest Performance.png

Why use Pinterest for your business?

Before we dig deep and discuss the key Pinterest metrics you should be tracking, you must be wondering why you should be using it for your business. Here are just some figures to help inspire you to get started with Pinterest for your business.

You have to look at Pinterest as an inspirational place - people who go into the platform are looking for inspiration for their next project, for ideas in building and promoting their business, and for possible support they can get.

Here are some quick Pinterest stats for you:

  • 98% of the Pinterest users have shared that they found something new on Pinterest

  • 84% uses the platform when they are trying to decide what to purchase

  • 77% have found a new brand or product on Pinterest

  • Pinterest has now more active monthly users vs Twitter and Snapchat combined

Knowing those stats above, it would be such a big miss if your business is not yet present on the platform. An important part of the strategy you should be creating for Pinterest is identifying the metrics you will measure to help you achieve your goal.

What Pinterest Metrics Should I track?

Much like other platforms you are using, it is best to keep track of your Pinterest performance to help you improve and understand what works and what doesn’t with the different efforts you are putting in on the platform.

1. Followers

We all know that Pinterest is a visual search engine, so do followers matter? According to Pinterest they still do. Why? Because the people who follow you will see ANY pin you post or save. So, it gives your pin a higher chance of gaining more impressions, engagements, and clicks if your followers save it.

2. Impressions

While this is seen as a vanity number, much like followers on Instagram, it is still important for you to keep track of the number of impressions your pins get.

Why?

It shows a good indication of whether or not your pins are showing up - which will give you that indication if your pinning strategy is working (especially your keyword optimization)

3. Engagements + Engaged Audience

While getting impressions for your pins is a good starting point, the way to identify if your visual or the image you used is working is to look at the pin engagements. So what does this mean? Look at the:

  • Pin clicks - people clicking on your pin to see it bigger

  • Saves (re-pins) - the number of times people have saved your pin to their boards

  • Engagement - for video, idea pins look at the reactions you get and comments you are getting too

4. Outbound clicks

While this is part of the engagements analytics, you can see a better breakdown on your Pinterest analytics. This is one of the best metrics you can look at on Pinterest. Your goal is to get clicks going to your blog, landing page, Instagram post. Track this &put together the other metrics to know if your strategy is working or not.

Key Pinterest Reporting Tools To Use

There are tools you can use to keep track of the metrics above and do a deep dive more.

1. Pinterest Analytics

This is free and you can have access to it right away after creating a business account or turning your personal account into a business account. Here you can do a thorough breakdown from seeing impressions, engaged audience, engagements to the specifics of pin clicks, saves, and outbound clicks.

2. Tailwind Analytics

While you can already have a good view of your Pinterest performance, you can see easier what boards are performing for your account which will help empower you to focus on what works best

3. Website Analytics

If one of the landing pages you use is your website - you will be able to see a breakdown of how much traffic is coming to your blog using Pinterest

Ready to get started?

Don’t be afraid to experiment with Pinterest. While it can be a struggle to get started at first, especially if you don’t have much experience with the platform, doing it month by month and analyzing your stats will help you understand what to do next.
