Five Mistakes You Shouldn’t Do on Pinterest for Your Pinterest Business Account
Getting ready to start promoting your business using Pinterest?
What I love about Pinterest is that it can help you drive more traffic to your website. Compared to Instagram and Facebook, where you need to basically invest in ads to drive traffic to your site, with Pinterest you just need to be consistent to start drawing more people to your site.
While it can be difficult to get started with a new platform for your business, let me give you five pointers on what you shouldn’t do to help you make the most out of your Pinterest presence for your business.
Five Mistakes To Avoid Doing on Pinterest
1. Not optimizing your Pinterest Profile
Just like in Instagram, where having a good bio is important, it is the same case for Pinterest. You need to pay attention to your Pinterest profile too. Remember, this platform is all about optimizing what you can. So why not get started with your profile?
Some reminders for when you set up your Public Profile:
For your name - add your name and keyword you want to associate to your account.
For your about - add your statement here (who you want to help and how) ensuring that you have keywords too
2. Not researching your keywords for your pins and boards
Remember, Pinterest is not a social media platform. Think of it more as Google - keywords are important and a must every time you pin. While your captions on Instagram might have keywords and a dash of storytelling, your Pin Title and Pin Description should have keywords. So, before any pinning happens, spend some time researching your keywords.

3. Not optimizing your board title and description
While setting up your Pinterest account and creating boards, you might just put in a title for the boards you create - but make sure you take time to also add a description for it.
Adding a description that is keyword rich will help the Pinterest Algorithm further understand what you are pinning about. It helps provide context to what your pins are about and help people seeing your pins and visiting your boards understand what they can see on your boards too.
Just make sure that when you add your description, it won’t just be one keyword after another - make sure you write a description that flows and is reader-friendly.
4. Not scheduling your pins in advance
One of the key things you want to do when you start being active on Pinterest is to schedule your pins in advance. Some do it a month in advance, some two weeks in advance, and some a week in advance. I personally try to schedule a week or two weeks in advance.
This will help you become consistent without burning out. So, go ahead and make sure you schedule all of your pins in advance. You can either use the Pinterest scheduling tool or use a tool like Tailwind (which I currently use) to help you bulk schedule your pins and even repins/saves in advance.
5. Not creating multiple pins per post you share
This is such a big no-no. While for Instagram or Facebook you do one post per topic or one post to help you promote a new blog post - you can do so much more for Pinterest. With Pinterest, you can try to make 10-15 pins per each blog post you share or even each Instagram post you share.
This will help you experiment and see what pin design works and what doesn’t. If you have templates, this will be very easy to do as well!
