Instagram and Pinterest Marketing for Your Business
Wondering what platform you can start adding to your business marketing efforts for 2022? Are you currently focusing heavily on Instagram and feel like you want to take a step back or add another platform that can create a high impact for your business next year?
How about a two platform approach using Instagram and Pinterest?
In this post, I will share with you how you can approach your business marketing using Instagram and Pinterest.
Before everything, let’s break down the statistics for Instagram and Pinterest and why both are a good addition to your current digital marketing strategy.
Instagram Statistics You Should Know
As a small business, Instagram has probably been your go-to. With the platform being easier to grow a community compared to Facebook, which has become a pay-to-play platform, it has been a go-to for more and more small businesses. Here are things you need to know about Instagram:
According to Pew Research, 63% of Instagram users log in to the app daily
The average time spent per day on the platform is 29 minutes (eMarketer, 2021)
Around 200 million Instagram users visit at least one business profile daily (Instagram)
Just the numbers above, specifically, the amount of users who visit business profiles should already convince you to take Instagram seriously for your business
Pinterest Statistics You Should Know
Often mistaken as a social platform, Pinterest is actually a visual search engine platform. Just look at it as google but instead of a string of search results linking to sites, you get image results that will lead you to good content.
This means there is a good chance for your site to get discovered when you start pinning and ensuring that you optimise your keywords for your pins. Here are some Pinterest statistics you need to know:
It has 450 million active users
The average daily time spent on Pinterest is 14 minutes and 2 seconds (Omnicore, 2021)
89% of users are on Pinterest for purchase inspiration
85% of users have bought something based on the pins they saw from brands
Perhaps the most interesting tidbit in that shortlist is the purchase intent and the percentage of users buying based from the pins they saw.
What is the Two Step-Platform Approach Using Instagram and Pinterest?
The two platform approach is pretty straightforward - you take the strengths of the two platforms and help you create a strategy detailing how you will make use of the two platforms to help you achieve your goals for your business. Here’s a quick breakdown as an example:
You will see that the role is highly influenced by the strengths - whereas Instagram will be converting through engagement, DMs and the content, Pinterest will do this by the pins saved and redirecting to the landing pages on your website.
This is similar to the approach I have for my Instagram and Pinterest accounts for promoting my business. Where Instagram is geared towards engagement and conversions through DMs and Pinterest is through redirecting people back to my blog content (like this) and getting possible conversions.
One of the key advantages of having a two platform approach? You are not reliant on just one platform to help drive people to discover you and get conversions - with a powerful Instagram and Pinterest combo you catch more audience in to check out what you have to offer.
How Can I Get Started with My Two Platform Approach for my Business?
After carefully identifying the role of each platform for your business, you need to set a cheat sheet of some sort to help you whenever you write or create content for the platform.
You need to play by the rules for each platform, which will be different from another. Where engagement is a must and reels for Instagram, Pinterest will be more on keyword optimisation and A/B testing. Both for both - content consistency is key.
A sample cheat sheet here is this, that I also use whenever I create content for the two platforms and plan in advance what I have to do (PS you can save this on your board for reference later).
Key Takeaways:
You don’t just have to rely on one platform to help you promote your business. Don’t disregard other platforms, especially if you know that your audience is already present on that platform.
