Ready to make the most out of Pinterest for your business? One of the key mistakes people have about Pinterest is that it is just another social media platform. Hold up! It really is not!

It is a visual search engine platform - more like Google but more visual. So, are you ready to use it to promote your business? One of the key things you have to understand is the Pinterest Funnel.

Pinterest for Business

You already have Instagram, Facebook, and perhaps TikTok but should you use another platform to increase discoverability about your business?

Pinterest can become a life changer for your biz especially if you know that your audience is present on the platform. Some key things you need to know about Pinterest:

  • It has 450M active users - more than Twitter and Snapchat combined

  • 89% of Pinterest users plan to purchase and find inspiration using the app

  • 85% of Pinterest users have purchased something based on pins they have seen

The Pinterest Funnel

If you are ready to get started with your strategy, the first thing you have to look into is creating a Pinterest Funnel. Like in using other social media platforms - it is important that you lay out the foundation of your consumer journey through Pinterest.

Perhaps you are wondering, do I really need a Pinterest Funnel for my Pinterest presence? The short answer? YES!

The only way you can get make the most out of your Pinterest efforts is when you set up a funnel that will help take your audience from point A to conversion.

Here is an example of what your Pinterest Funnel can look like.

There are basically four parts for this Pinterest Funnel and below I will dissect each step to help you create your own funnel too and what would be essential for you to have on each step.

Ready to get started?

Step 1: Initial Discovery

This is the crucial first step. This is where your audience discovers you through the pins you have created. So, how can you get discovered by your target audience? When you use keywords they search for on your Pin Title, Pin Description, Board Title, and Board Description.

In this step, it is important that you spend time searching for relevant keywords based on who you are targeting. You can look at your pin impressions here to identify if you are showing up when people search.

Step 2: Engagement

After you show up on their search results comes engagement - what comes into play here? Your Pin Visual! Do they make an impact, do they stand out from the rest when you see them turn up on search?

This is why it is important that you:

  • Experiment with different pin visuals

  • Try out different visual headlines to see what gets more attention and what doesn’t

  • Explore video pins and idea pins

It is crucial that you spend time creating around 6-10 pin images per post or content that you share. You can check how I do this for each post I share here. Make this easier by getting the Pinterest Pin Pack - a collection of 90 Canva Templates to make pin creation easier for you. Get it now!

Look at pin clicks and saves for this part of the funnel.

Step 3: Nurturing

Two things can come into play when we talk about nurturing. One is within the Pinterest platform and the other one is outside.

Inside the Pinterest platform, after they see your pins and they follow you - will you be able to continuously provide them with content they can find useful for their business? Or are you just pinning random things that are not connected with each other? This goes back to knowing who your audience is. Ensure that each post you pin is designed to help them and show them that you are knowledgeable about what you do.

Outside the platform, after they click on your pin and land on your blog post - does it deliver on the promise you have put in the visual? When they click on your pin and go to your landing page, does it help convert them to sign up for your mailing list? And when they do, will they receive emails that will help them even more?

Look at outbound clicks and followers here - check out your site statistics and sign ups for email leads here.

Step 4: Conversion

The last step happens after all of the Pinterest efforts you have done. If you nurture them enough, through your emails or your content they will convert. For some pinners, this can happen right away from discovery to conversion when all of your systems are in place to engage and nurture your audience.
