The Know-Like-Trust Strategy
Launching your business soon but unsure how to approach marketing it across social media platforms? Why not approach it using the Know-Like-Trust Strategy?
First, let’s be honest here. You can never expect a person to purchase what you are selling right after seeing an advertisement on Facebook or IG. You also can expect your audience to buy right away after you have started posting. We have to remember this simple idea: People will only buy from you if they trust you.
Even if you are just selling a product worth a dollar, that dollar was earned by that person through working hard. Especially through this pandemic, every single dollar counts. So whether we like it or not, they will not let that go easily.
Bigger brands have it easier vs. smaller businesses as they have established their name. But for new and upcoming or small biz this is where the Know-Like-Trust Strategy comes in.
Know-Like-What?
Yes, I’ll say it again. Know-Like-Trust. The concept is pretty easy to grasp. The flow goes like this:
A person needs to know who you are, start liking who you are and what you are offering before you gain their trust and gain their dollar.
Let’s go through each step to identify how you can apply it to your social media marketing efforts for your biz.
After launching your biz and your social media pages, you start with zero awareness and zero followers. This is the rough start when your ideal audience is not aware of who you are. While you may know a lot about them, they have zero knowledge that you exist.
So once you start posting, you use hashtags to reach more people and engage with accounts. Your ideal audience starts seeing your posts or in the comment section. They will be intrigued and go to your Instagram Page. They will try to get to know you before they make the decision to either follow you or not.
In terms of promoting your biz on Instagram, the important things here are:
An optimized name that can be easily searched (throw in some pixie dust of SEO on your IG profile)
An optimized bio
A good IG highlight section
A good amount of posts that your ideal audience can resonate with
A good content strategy to help attract those engagements
A good set of hashtags specific for your post and your biz
What next after your ideal audience decides to follow you? You need to make them like you! Sounds easy? This is where that good content strategy will help you a lot! And I really mean, a lot! Once they follow you, they will see some of your posts. If they see how valuable it is, they start liking it. Then eventually they might save it or share it or even leave a comment! They are hooked with what you have been sharing.
You start posting IG stories and they regularly engage with it. You show your face and your personality and they resonate with you. Now, they see you more and understand more about your biz and what you are offering. They start liking you and seeing you as an expert in whatever it is you are offering.
Key things you can use to make them like you:
Good content strategy
Regular engagement with your audience
Showing up to IG stories daily
Engaging with your audience via DM
You see your ideal audience regularly engaging with your posts. Now, in their eyes, you are offering something valuable. They trust you, your expertise, and your offering. Here is where those conversions start coming in. By continuously showing up, sharing good content, and engaging with them you are making it easier for your audience to open their wallets and buy whatever it is you are selling.
Key things you need for this step:
A good DM strategy (yep, there’s a strategy for getting those conversions)
Good content strategy (really cannot stress how important this is)
Consistency in showing up and engaging
What next?
Why not apply this approach to your biz? Instead of rushing those conversions seek to create connections with the KLT strategy in mind. Help them know who you are, like you, and trust you before you sell whatever it is you are selling!

It’s been three years since I resigned from my corporate job and started my business. It has been an amazing ride so far but the one thing I realized is that I had moments when I felt burned out from everything I was doing. This is when I knew I had to take better care of myself.
