Five Other Social Platforms For Your Business

In launching your business, aside from your inventory, your business model, and goals - another thing you need to determine is which social media platforms you should be present in to promote your service or products you are offering.

A quick look at the data available will point that Instagram is one of the platforms you should add to your mix - you can get more organic engagement from it, more possible eye balls for your posts, and more possible conversions.

While Instagram seems to be the hero in this space for small or medium business owners (even for big brands) - you shouldn’t solely rely on it. In this post, I will share five other platforms you can explore and maximize for your business.

The first one on my list? TikTok! If there’s one thing we can learn from TikTok that is short-form video content works and hooks users in. The beauty of the platform is in its algorithm - you can start with zero followers but gain a thousand views for your first post. With consistent posting, you can grow your follower base and really tell the story of your business.

Some quick tips:

  • Be consistent in posting - content-wise and schedule-wise. In your first few posts, TikTok is learning what type of post you are sharing and also the individuals it should be sharing your post to

  • Use trends or music but make sure you keep it on brand. You can even utilize sounds but mute it just so your video shows up on posts using that music

  • Make sure you are not using banned sounds - if you see that the sound you used is just a black circle with a yellow dot chances are it’s a banned sound. This will affect your views so either delete it or put it on private

One of my favorite platforms to date - Pinterest. It’s an information resource for individuals. So when they come into the platform they already made a decision to make a renovation, purchase new clothes, or get inspiration for learning new things. As a business, you can utilize it to your advantage to influence their decisions.

Here are some examples:

  • If you are selling decor items, the platform will allow users to save your pins to their inspo boards. Continue sharing beautiful photos or looks and it can influence the user to check out your product listing

  • If you are selling a service, you can use the platform to help your blog posts gain more reach. You just have to ensure that your posts are value-packed which will make them more likely to subscribe to your newsletter and know more about you

This is a tricky one, Facebook is still very relevant but reach of pages have gone down. I still do suggest that you maximize this platform but instead of just focusing on sharing posts through your page’s feed, think about launching a Facebook Group instead. The fact is, groups get way better reach and engagement especially if you carefully nurture your members.

Here are some tips on how you can grow your Facebook Group:

  • Promote it on other platforms that you have

  • For all members of your mailing list, ask them to join your Facebook Group to get more up-to-date news from you

  • Join other relevant groups in your niche - you can promote your group there OR connect with individuals and ask them to join your group too

If your goal is to network with people from the same niche, LinkedIn is a good way to go, especially for those who are offering services. You want to be seen as a good resource and you can do it through this platform. While it has been said that reach and engagement are going down on LinkedIn all you need to do is find your groove to really maximize the platform.

From experience, here are things you can try out:

  • Curate your posts as much as possible - you don’t need to post here. I’ve seen that the more I post, the lower my reach is. The opposite happened when I spaced posts out to one post every other day or every other two days

  • Utilize hashtags - this will help your content become discoverable

  • Utilize your carousels on Insta - you just need to turn it into a pdf file so you can share it as a carousel post

Last, but not the least, Clubhouse. Perhaps the most trending platform now, Clubhouse is a very different social platform. Utilizing voice over visuals, the platform allows everybody to have a mini-podcast by moderating rooms with certain topics. There are rooms for everybody here and for small biz owners, you can use it as a way for you to learn more about digital and social media or partnering with influencers. As service providers, you can give moderating rooms a go and really promote what you are offering

Some tips:

  • Don’t be afraid to raise your hand in rooms especially if you want to add anything to the discussion or if you have a question

  • Curate the rooms you go into because you can experience information overload. Every room has a different topic and you need to get the most out of it by selecting which ones matter to you

What should you do next?

Carefully consider which platforms fit the goals you have set for your business. You don’t need to be on all platforms to get results - you just need to be selective.

Having a mix of two or three plus your mailing list will already be a good starting point.
