Seeing low engagement on your posts and suddenly you start wondering if engagement groups are worth it? I know how frustrating it can be to see a post you worked so hard on getting so little engagement back from your followers on Instagram.

Before you jump in and Google how to find Instagram engagement groups, let me break down why I don’t recommend it. And this is coming from my personal experience.

What Are Instagram Engagement Groups.png

Easily put, engagement groups are designed to help you gain more likes, comments saves, and shares for your posts. These groups are often found on Facebook (Facebook Groups) and Telegram (you either get invited to be part of a group or you join a subscription-based one).

Within the groups or telegram, you will get notified when a new engagement session will happen (either via a Facebook post or Telegram message). This will then be your signal to drop a link if you want to take part in the engagement session. It can either be a like for a like, comment for comment, saves, or shares.

After dropping your Instagram post link, you need to like/comment/save/share all of the links dropped within a certain period of time. This means you need to put in the work or risk getting banned or removed from the group.

Instagram Engagement Groups Explained

When you look at it from that perspective, it all sounds great and an easy way to get all the engagement you want, right?

Are Instagram Engagement Groups Worth it?

My quick answer to this? No.

Coming from my experience, it seemed great and a brilliant way of tricking the Instagram gods but it really isn’t so.

Sure, you get engagement on your posts but it will only work short-term and won’t be sustainable if you really want to succeed on Instagram. Let me give you a detailed explanation of why I don’t recommend it.

Reason 1: You become dependent on Instagram Engagement Groups

Sure, you get a good amount of likes, comments, saves, and shares BUT they are just doing it to get engagement back and not because they actually like your content. Remember, the reason why they engage with you is that they have to.

What happens is you depend on the Instagram Engagement groups because without the group your posts will get no engagement *crickets*. This is because you never put in the hard work to build a community that will support you and rally behind you.

It can be addicting, I experienced it first hand, but then you wake up realizing without it you’re not really connecting with anyone.

Reason 2: You don’t learn what works and what doesn’t

Since you get the same amount of engagement across your posts, you won’t be able to point out what works and what doesn’t.

Why is this bad?

You wouldn’t be able to create content that will resonate with your ideal client or ideal audience because you have no understanding of what they would like to see more or less from you. This will hinder your growth and you will be stuck creating content you think works.

Reason 3: You are confusing the algorithm and risk getting your account blocked

Instagram tracks all activity you do on the app. Let’s say you join an Instagram Engagement Group, you go ahead and join the like for like session. Instagram will see the type of content you “like” and see profiles interacting on your page.

Why is this damaging? Instagram will get confused as to the type of content it should serve you on your feed and explore page. At the same time, it will get confused on who it will suggest for you to follow. The same thing goes for your account and posts, it will also get confused on which people it should serve your content to and which accounts it can associate you under the “Suggested For You” option.

The second part is that you risk your account getting blocked. Why? Because it will track that you are doing certain activities at a certain time that can be perceived as spammy or bot-like. Has this happened? Yes, I’ve read comments under engagement groups that their accounts are blocked from doing any type of activity and some have even been locked out of their account. Remember what I mentioned above, you need to do the engagement with other accounts within a certain period of time.

What can I do instead to get good engagement on my Instagram account?

If you are seeing low engagement on your posts there are a lot of factors for you to look at but always start with identifying your target audience and catering your content for them. Instagram, like any other social media platform, is all about testing and learning. So keep posting to learn what works and what doesn’t.

If you are still hearing *crickets* on your posts, instead of joining Instagram engagement groups focus on building your community and engaging with accounts within your niche. This will take time to establish but once you do, your community will be there to support you all the way.
