How To Optimize Your Pinterest Business Account
Started pinning on Pinterest for your business but not seeing results? Before you call it quits for Pinterest, maybe you just need to work on optimizing your business account. In this post, I will discuss the different steps you need to take to start optimizing your Pinterest Business Account.
Stop treating Pinterest as just another social media platform
Before we move forward, the most important thing you have to remember is this: Pinterest IS NOT a social media platform, it is a visual search engine. With this shift in mindset, you need to take away that:
Pinterest won’t deliver you instant results
You need to have visually appealing pins to get the attention of your audience
Pinterest is built to help the audience discover new content
Your pins, boards, and about section needs a dash of SEO
Hashtags shouldn’t be your number one priority, focus on keywords instead
Five Key Tips in Optimizing Your Pinterest Business Account
Now that you see Pinterest more as a search engine, you must treat it as is and use SEO tactics to help you gain more traction.
1. Know your keywords
You know who your audience is, you have a goal in mind, the next step would be for you to think of or check for the keywords they would use in searching content on Pinterest. While it can be hard at first, having a list of keywords will help you optimize everything that you post on the platform. Unsure where to start? Use the tools I have shared in this blog post to help you get started.
2. Use your keywords to optimize your bio and your boards
Before you do optimization on your pins, focus your attention on optimizing your bio and your boards. For your bio, ensure that you use certain keywords to help describe who you are, who you help, and how you help. Next, turn your attention to your current boards. If you are just sticking with the name of the boards as a way of “optimizing it” you are missing out. Use the board description to help you optimize your boards too! These descriptions will help the algorithm better understand what your content is about (more on this later).
3. Post pins with keywords on the title and description
Now to the actual pinning!
Don’t just pin and use captions like you would on your social platforms.
That list of keywords you have? Add them to your title and description BUT make sure that you still have a flow that makes sense.
4. Post pins to the most relevant board first
This is my secret tip. So, remember in tip 2 I mentioned that you should be adding descriptions to your boards for that dash of SEO? The reason behind that, aside from optimizing the board itself, is that it helps optimize the new pins you post even more. Why? When you pin, the algorithm will look not just at the pin itself but also at the board you will be pinning it to. Having those board descriptions then help optimize your pins a bit more! So before you pin your pin to certain boards - ensure that is pinned to the most relevant board first.
5. Stay consistent
I’m sure you are wondering, what does consistency have to do with optimizing your account - but being consistent with your SEO practice on the platform will help Pinterest better understand what you are pinning about and what you are offering.
